Top 5 Things You Should Know When Purchasing a Car Trailer or Hauler from Internet-Trailer

1. Know the Dimensions of the Vehicle You’re Putting in the Car Trailer

When choosing the right car trailer for your needs, be sure to know the dimensions of the car you wish to port in the trailer.  It is important to verify that the car trailer you purchase is both wide enough and long enough to carry your vehicle.

2. Know to Leave Extra Room in Your Car Hauler

We at Internet Trailer recommend that you measure your car accurately and leave at least two feet of extra room in the front and two feet of extra room in the rear surrounding the length of your car. This extra space will assure ample room for your vehicle in the car trailer. For example, for an 18-foot car, Internet Trailer recommends purchasing a trailer that is at least 22 feet long.

3. Know Your Cargo

When choosing your car hauler, you should also take into consideration any extra cargo with which you may be traveling. The carrying capacity of the trailer must exceed the weight of your car empty. You should leave a margin for fuel and any additional equipment and cargo you may haul in your car trailer along with the vehicle itself.

4. Know the Towing Capacity of your car

In addition to calculating the proper dimensions for the car hauler you wish to purchase, you must also take into consideration the capacity of the vehicle that will tow your new trailer. Be sure to check the maximum weight your vehicle can handle when pulling a trailer and check with your towing vehicle manufacturer to see what size car trailer you can purchase.  To figure out if your vehicle can handle the weight of the car hauler you wish to purchase, use the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). The GVWR is the amount your car trailer weighs at its capacity. Confirm that your vehicle can tow this much weight before purchasing any trailer from Internet Trailer.

5. Know the Payload Capacity of your Car Trailer

The amount of payload your car trailer can haul is the GVWR minus the trailer weight. For example, if your car trailer’s GVWR is 7000 lbs, and your trailer weight is 2400 lbs, your payload capacity is the difference (4600 lbs). Don’t forget to purchase your car trailer with a GVWR that is sufficient for the weight of both your car and your additional cargo. If you have purchased a car hauler that does not have a high enough GVWR, you can upgrade the axles on your car trailer to increase its hauling capacity
